Mooré is a special way of speaking. It belongs to a group called Gur languages. This language is very important in Burkina Faso. It is one of the four official languages there.

The Mossi people use Mooré to talk to each other. It is the main language in the capital city. That big city is called Ouagadougou.

More than half of the people in Burkina Faso use it. It helps people share stories and ideas every day.

Speaking Mooré involves many different sounds. Some sounds are made with the lips. Other sounds come from the teeth or the tongue.

Some sounds are nasal. This means the air goes through your nose. The vowels can be short or long. Some vowels can also be nasalized. This gives the language a unique sound. There are also sounds called diphthongs. These are two vowel sounds joined together.

People have used Mooré for a very long time. It is the native language of the Mossi people. About 6.46 million people speak it as their first language.

Many other people learn it as a second language. It is not just in one place. You can hear it in many different lands. These include Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire, and Benin. It is also spoken in Niger, Mali, Togo, and Senegal.

Writing Mooré uses a special set of letters. In Burkina Faso, people use the national Burkinabé alphabet. This alphabet has specific letters for its sounds. One special letter is Ʋ. It looks like a v with a small hook.

There is also a newer way to write it. This is called the Goulsse alphabet. Both ways help people record their words on paper.

Learning about Mooré helps us see how people connect. It is part of the Oti–Volta branch of languages. This branch connects it to other groups. For example, Mooré is a close relative to Frafra. It is also related to a language called Dagbani.
