Misandry is a word for hating men or boys. It comes from Greek words for "man" and "hatred."

The word started in the late 1800s. At that time, some people used it to describe feminism. They claimed that feminists hated men. This was a way to compare misandry to misogyny. Misogyny is the hatred of women.

In the 1980s, the word became popular again. It was used in books about men's rights. Today, many people talk about it on the internet. Some groups say that laws are unfair to men. They point to rules about divorce and the military draft. They also look at how courts treat men.

However, many experts have a different view. They say misandry does not have the same power as misogyny. Most societies do not have systems that target men. Some studies call the idea of widespread misandry a myth. They say feminists are not more likely to hate men than anyone else.

Some researchers also study how race plays a part. They say Black men may face special types of hate. This is a complex topic that people still study today.
