geography Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Minya is a large area in Upper Egypt. It sits along the Nile River. The capital city is also named Minya. Most people there live in the countryside. Only a small part of the people live in cities.

Minya has a very long history. You can find many old sites there. Some were built by Pharaoh Akhenaten. He lived there with his wife, Nefertiti. You can still see ruins of his palaces and temples. There are also many old tombs. Some were carved into rocks. In 2019, workers found fifty mummies at a site called Tuna El-Gebel. These mummies were wrapped in linen.
