geography Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Monufia is a place in northern Egypt. It sits in the Nile Delta. This area is between two branches of the Nile River. The name comes from an old word. It means "The Good Land." This is because the soil is very rich.

Most people in Monufia are farmers. They grow many fruits and vegetables. They also grow crops to sell for money. The Nile River provides water for these plants. Some people work in big factories too. Sadat City is a very large center for industry.

Many students go to school here. There are several big universities. Menoufia University is one of them. It started in 1976.

Monufia has a long history. Four Egyptian presidents were born here. This makes the area very famous. The land is mostly green and rural. Many people live in small villages. Others live in cities like Shibin El Kom. This city is the capital of the area. Two big roads run through the land. They connect the region to Cairo and Alexandria.
