Many things sit along the river. A giant Buddha is built into the stone banks. Long ago, a man named Li Bing built a water system. We call this the Dujiangyan Irrigation System. It is about 2,300 years old. This system helped many people live in the area.

People use the river for power. They build dams to make hydroelectric power. This is power made from moving water. As of 2014, there were many dams. Some were finished, and some were still being planned.

Nature is changing on the river, too. A study found that many fish species are gone. Only 16 of 40 fish species are seen today. One special fish is the Sichuan Taimen. It has not been seen in the Wenchuan part of the river for ten years.
