She was a three-time women's world champion. Her most famous run lasted from the mid-1930s to the mid-1950s. During this time, she held the NWA World Women's Championship for nearly twenty years. Burke was a true pioneer for women in sports. She showed the world that women could be strong and skilled athletes. Her impact on the sport was so large that people still honor her today. One major championship is even called "The Burke."

Burke's path to the ring was very unique. She was born Mildred Bliss in 1915 in Coffeyville, Kansas. Before wrestling, she worked as a waitress and a stenographer. She first became interested in wrestling after attending an event with her boyfriend. In 1935, she began wrestling men at carnivals. To prove her strength, she once performed a body slam on a man. This impressive move convinced trainer Billy Wolfe to teach her. Wolfe eventually became her manager and her husband.

Her career was full of both great wins and hard struggles. In January 1937, she defeated Clara Mortensen to become the Women's World Champion. However, her marriage to Wolfe became very difficult. They had many disagreements about business and loyalty. In 1952, the couple separated, which led to big problems in the wrestling world. The NWA tried to make them settle their issues. Burke even had to sit in a hotel lobby while men argued about her future. These hard times made it difficult for her to keep her championship status.

Even when things were tough, Burke never stopped working. She started the World Women's Wrestling Association in Los Angeles. She also created International Women's Wrestlers Inc. with Bill Newman. This company had offices in New York City, San Francisco, and even Sydney, Australia.

These include the WWE Hall of Fame, the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame, and the Women's Wrestling Hall of Fame. Her life was even turned into a movie called *Queen of the Ring*. This film tells the story of her life as a famous wrestling legend. Burke passed away in 1989, but her influence lives on in every woman who enters the ring. She remains a symbol of strength and persistence.
