Learning to wrestle was a big part of his life from a young age. As a boy, he lived in a tent on the prairies. He learned "catch wrestling," which is a style focused on holds and submissions. He taught this same style to his students to make them better. He wanted them to use real moves to make their matches sharper. His training was very tough and helped his students become great athletes. Many of his students, like Chris Jericho and Edge, went on to become world champions.

Stu's journey began long before he became a famous promoter. He was born in Saskatoon in 1915 to a very poor family. He was a talented amateur wrestler during the 1930s and 1940s. He won many national championships and even won a gold medal in 1937. He really wanted to go to the 1940 Summer Olympics in Helsinki. However, the Olympics were cancelled because World War II started. This was a very sad moment for him because it was his big dream.
