Many legends tell of his life. One famous story says he had a golden touch. He asked a god named Dionysus for this gift. At first, Midas was very happy. He touched a stone and it became gold. He even touched roses in his garden.

But soon, he faced a big problem. His food and drink also turned to gold. He could not eat or drink. In one story, he even touched his daughter. She turned into a gold statue. Midas felt much regret. He washed in the river Pactolus to fix it. The gold power flowed into the river sands.

Another legend says he had the ears of a donkey. This happened after he judged a music contest. He thought the music of Pan was better than Apollo. Apollo was not happy with this choice. Apollo gave him donkey ears as a punishment.
