Many stories say he invented many tools. Some say he made the first saws and glue. He also made sails for ships. People even said his statues looked alive.

Daedalus had a nephew named Perdix. Perdix was very smart too. He invented the saw and the compass. Daedalus felt very jealous of his nephew. He tried to hurt him by throwing him off a high building. A goddess saved the boy. She turned him into a partridge bird.

Daedalus also built a huge maze called a Labyrinth. It was built for King Minos.

Later, the King put Daedalus in the maze. Daedalus made wings to fly away. He used feathers and wax. He told his son, Icarus, not to fly too close to the sun. The sun melted the wax. Icarus fell into the sea.

Daedalus was very sad. He named an island after his son. He later lived in Sicily. There, he solved a hard riddle for a king using an ant and honey.
