Michio Kaku is a famous American scientist who studies how the universe works. He is a theoretical physicist, which means he uses math to understand nature.

He is also a writer and a science communicator. This means he explains hard ideas to regular people. He teaches at the City College of New York. He holds the Henry Semat Chair and Professorship there. Kaku has written many books that people love to read. Some of his books are even New York Times best sellers.

Kaku's journey into science started with a single photograph. He saw a picture of Albert Einstein's desk after the famous scientist died. Einstein had been working on a unified field theory. This is a way to explain all of physics with one idea. Einstein could not finish it, so Kaku decided to try. As a teenager, Kaku built an "atom smasher" in his garage. He used scrap metal and wire to make it. The device was even strong enough to produce antimatter. This project helped him meet a famous physicist named Edward Teller.

Kaku worked very hard on his education to reach his goals. He went to Harvard College and graduated at the top of his class in 1968. After that, he went to the University of California, Berkeley. He studied at the Berkeley Radiation Laboratory and earned his PhD there. He also held a job teaching at Princeton University in 1972. Between 1970 and 2000, he published many papers in science journals. He wrote about things like superstring theory and quantum mechanics. These are deep ways to look at how tiny particles move.

Kaku is very busy sharing his ideas with the whole world. He has appeared on many TV channels like the BBC and Discovery Channel.

He also hosts radio programs like Science Fantastic. He uses these shows to talk about science, peace, and the environment. Some of his famous books include Physics of the Impossible and The God Equation. He even hosted a series called Sci Fi Science. This show looked at the science behind things like time travel. He wants everyone to understand the magic of physics.

Kaku thinks a lot about what will happen to humans in the future. He believes humans might one day live on planets far away. However, he also worries about serious problems on Earth. He talks about the dangers of space junk and climate change. He even criticized how NASA handled a space probe called Cassini-Huygens. He wanted to make sure the environment stayed safe from fuel. Kaku believes science should be used to help people and explore the stars. When he is not studying the stars, he enjoys figure skating.
