Moore's way of making films often involves looking closely at difficult topics. In his first big film, Roger & Me, he studied what happened to his hometown of Flint, Michigan. He showed how closing car factories changed the lives of many workers. He also made a film called Bowling for Columbine about gun culture in America. His career began long before he became a famous director. When he was 22, he started a newspaper called Free to Be. It later changed its name to The Flint Voice and then The Michigan Voice. A singer named Harry Chapin helped him start the paper by donating money from concerts. Later, Moore worked as a journalist for a magazine called Mother Jones. He was fired from that job after a disagreement about a story. He even sued for wrongful dismissal and settled for $58,000. This money helped him fund his very first movie.

Moore has directed many films that people talk about for a long time. His film Fahrenheit 9/11 looked at the presidency of George W. Bush. It won the Palme d'Or, which is a top prize at the Cannes Film Festival. This movie was a huge success and made over $119 million at the American box office. Another film, Sicko, looks at the health care system in the United States. He also worked as an executive producer on a film called Planet of the Humans in 2019. These films often spark intense debates among viewers and critics.

His ancestors included Quakers, who are known for being peaceful people. He was also very active in his community at a young age. At just 18, he was elected to the Davison school board. This made him the youngest person ever elected to public office in the U.S. at that time. Today, his films continue to be a way for him to share his unique views with the world.
