He lived from 1899 to 1970. He studied how money, work, and people affect the world. Many experts call him one of the most original thinkers of the 20th century. He was one of the first people to use math and data to answer economic questions. He also cared deeply about how economic rules changed people's lives. His work helped shape many new ways of thinking about money and society.

Kalecki's ideas focused on many big topics. He studied business cycles, which are the ups and downs of an economy. He also looked at economic growth and how to keep everyone employed. He wanted to understand how money is shared among different groups of people. He even studied how political events can cause changes in the economy. By using math, he could show how these different parts worked together. This helped him explain why economies change over time.

Kalecki grew up in a busy industrial city in Poland.

He originally studied civil engineering at the Warsaw Polytechnic. Because his family had money troubles, he had to work as an accountant. He also studied economics on his own by reading books. He read works by thinkers like Mikhail Tugan-Baranovsky and Rosa Luxemburg. These books helped him form his own unique ideas. Later, he worked at many famous schools like Oxford and Cambridge.

In the 1930s, Kalecki wrote a famous essay about business cycles.
