The MeToo movement is a way for people to support each other. It is a social movement and a campaign to raise awareness. This campaign focuses on sexual abuse and sexual harassment. It also addresses what people call rape culture. Survivors share their own stories to help others. Many women lead these conversations, especially famous people. This helps show that many people face these same hard problems.

The movement works by using empathy and strength in numbers. When people say "Me Too," they show they are not alone. This creates a sense of solidarity among survivors. It helps people feel empowered through shared experiences. This is especially important in places like the workplace. By speaking up, people show the true size of the problem.

This work began with an activist named Tarana Burke. In 2006, she used the phrase "Me Too" on Myspace. She wanted to help young and vulnerable women feel supported. Later, the movement grew much larger through social media. In October 2017, many people talked about film producer Harvey Weinstein. Following this, actress Alyssa Milano posted on Twitter. She encouraged women to use the hashtag #MeToo to show how common harassment is.

Many famous people joined the conversation on social media. This included celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Lawrence, and Uma Thurman. The movement spread to dozens of different languages. It became a global movement for justice. Some people worry about false reports being made. However, the US Department of Justice says false reports are only 2% to 10%. This means most reports are true.

Today, the movement works to change laws and policies. Leaders want better ways for people to find healing. They advocate for better rules in schools and for teachers. Some people want to change how companies handle complaints. This includes stopping companies from using secret agreements to hide problems. The movement also encourages men to take a stand. They can help by listening to victims and calling out bad behavior.
