A person who studies this is called a metallurgist. They look at how metals act and change. They also study alloys. An alloy is a mix of two or more metals. Sometimes, people add other things to make a better mix.

There are two main ways to study metals. Chemical metallurgy looks at how metals change. It studies how to take metal out of rocks. This is called extraction. Physical metallurgy looks at how metals move and break.

People have used metals for a very long time. Gold was one of the first metals used. People also used copper and tin. By mixing copper and tin, people made bronze. This was a big change in history. Later, people learned to make iron. Making iron is much harder than making copper.

Today, we use many kinds of metals. We make steel by mixing iron and carbon. We also make stainless steel.
