These gloves also protect hands from blood and body fluids.

There are two main types of gloves. Examination gloves are used for checkups. They can be sterile, which means they are very clean. Surgical gloves are used during operations. These gloves fit more precisely. They help doctors feel things better with their hands.

Gloves are made from different materials called polymers. Some are made of latex from plants. Others use nitrile rubber or neoprene. Nitrile is strong and resists tearing.

Some gloves have powder inside to help hands slide in. This powder is often corn starch. However, many doctors now use unpowdered gloves. This is because powder can cause skin problems or slow healing.

To make unpowdered gloves easy to wear, makers use special steps. They might use chlorination. This is a way to treat the gloves so they slide on easily. Some gloves also have a polymer coating. This coating uses gels or resins to help.

Surgeons may even wear two layers of gloves. This is called double gloving. It helps prevent holes from sharp tools.
