Media monitoring

technology Maturity 11-13 Next article →

People talk about many things in the media. They talk on TV and radio. They write in papers and blogs. They also post on social media. Media monitoring is a way to track these talks.

Groups use this to see what people think. Businesses want to know how they are seen. They look for a keyword. A keyword is a special word like a company name. They track how many times that word appears. These small bits of news are called clippings.

One way to do this is buzz monitoring. This is looking at blogs and social networks. It shows if people like a product. Social scientists also use this tool. They look at news from all over the world. They check for bias. Bias is when news is not fair to all sides.

Computers help do this work. They use machine learning. This is a way for computers to learn from data. Machines can scan text very fast. They can also record video and audio. This helps people find facts quickly.
