A news agency is a special group. Its job is to gather news reports. Then, it sells those stories to others. These buyers include newspapers and magazines. They also include radio and TV stations.

Three big groups are very famous. They are the Associated Press (AP). They are Reuters. The third is Agence France-Presse (AFP). These groups have offices in most countries. They provide much of the world's news. These agencies try to be neutral. Being neutral means they do not pick sides. They focus on facts that are correct. They do not make judgments.

In the past, news moved slowly. Then, people used the telegraph. A telegraph is a tool that sends messages fast. In the 1850s, the telegraph helped agencies grow. They could send news across long distances. Today, agencies use the internet. They send news and photos to many people at once. Some agencies focus on money news. Bloomberg News is one example. Other agencies are run by governments. Xinhua is a large agency in China. News agencies help the whole world stay informed.
