New media

technology Maturity 9-11 Next article →

New media are tools that let people interact. Interaction means people can talk to each other. They can also talk to the things they see.

Old media used to be the main way we got news. This included things like radio, books, and television. These were often "one to many" tools. This means one person spoke to many people. New media changes this into a "many to many" way. Now, many people can talk to many others at once.

New media use digital technology and computers. This includes things like blogs and social media. It also includes wikis and virtual worlds. These tools let you share your own ideas online. You can use text, sounds, or images.

New media also change how old media works. For example, digital tools help people edit photos. This is done with software. Computers can also do math very fast. They use algorithms, which are sets of rules, to work. This speed makes things like video games possible. New media make it easy to connect across the world.
