Mecha

arts Maturity 7-9 Next article →

Mecha are giant robots or machines.

They often look like humans with arms and legs. In Japan, the word mecha comes from the word "mechanical." While a robot is a specific machine, mecha can mean many things. It can include any kind of machine or tool.

Many mecha are piloted by a person. The pilot sits in a small room called a cockpit. This room is often in the chest or the head.

Some stories show mecha as fighting machines. They use big weapons to win battles. Other stories show mecha doing helpful work. They can help with building, police work, or fighting fires.

Mecha come in many different sizes. Some are only as big as a tank. Others are as tall as a city. Some are even as big as a whole planet!

Some mecha can change their shape. This is called transformation. They might turn from a truck into a robot. Some can even join together to make one super robot. This is called combination. People all over the world love these machines. They even build big statues of them to show their pride.
