Battistini learned to sing through hard work and study. He first studied law at a university. Later, he left law school to study music instead. He studied with teachers like Emilio Terziani and Venceslao Persichini in Rome. He also worked with a famous singer named Antonio Cotogni. This helped him perfect his singing technique. He made his first professional stage appearance in Rome in 1878. He sang the role of Alfonso in an opera called La favorita.

His career took him to many famous cities. He sang in London at the Royal Opera House in 1883. He also performed in places like Madrid, Barcelona, and Naples. Battistini spent a lot of time in Russia.

He sang in the big theaters of Saint Petersburg and Moscow. He traveled to these places like a prince. He used a private train car for his trips. He also carried many trunks filled with elegant stage clothes. One rough trip on a ship made him fear the ocean. Because of this, he did not travel to the Americas again.

Battistini was also a very important recording artist. He made many early records between 1906 and 1924. These records were made using a very old method. Some used wax to hold the sound of his voice. He recorded for companies like the Gramophone Co Ltd. His voice sounded very good on these early machines. Even though the recording tools were simple, his voice stayed clear. He could sing very high and very strong notes.
