He was one of the best in the world. In 1988, he was the number one player. He won 33 singles titles during his career. He also won seven major titles. A major is a very big tournament.

Wilander was a star at a young age. He won the French Open when he was 17. This made many people very surprised. He was the youngest man to win that many titles. He was also known for being a fair player. He even won a trophy for fair play.

He was great on all kinds of courts. He won on clay, grass, and hard courts. This is a very hard thing to do. In 1988, he won the Australian Open on hard courts. He had already won it on grass before. He also helped his team, Sweden, win the Davis Cup. Sweden won this cup in 1984, 1985, and 1987. He retired from tennis in 1996. In 2002, he joined the Tennis Hall of Fame.
