He was one of the best in the world. He held the number one ranking in both singles and doubles. This is a rare feat in tennis history.

Edberg was a master of the serve-and-volley style. This means he would hit the ball and run to the net. He used quick feet to control the game. He did not have a very strong serve. Instead, he used slice or kick serves to move his opponents. He was also known for his great one-handed backhand.

He won many major titles during his career. He won six major singles titles. He also won three major doubles titles. In 1983, he won all four junior Grand Slam titles. He is the only player to do this in the open era.

Edberg was also a very kind player. He won the ATP Sportsmanship Award five times. The award was later renamed the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award. After he retired, he helped coach Roger Federer. He was a mentor who helped Federer play well again.
