Margery had many visions of holy figures. She felt called to have a close bond with God. These experiences made her feel very strong emotions. She often cried loudly in public. This made some people feel annoyed or scared. Some leaders even questioned her faith. They even put her in prison at one time. Margery decided to write down her life story. She could not read or write herself. She spoke her words to a scribe. A scribe is a person who writes down what others say. Her book is very special today. Many people think it is the first autobiography in English. An autobiography is a book a person writes about their own life. She wrote about her many trips to holy places. She also wrote about her family and her faith.
