Castells explains a concept called the network society to describe our modern world. He says we are moving away from old ways of organizing things. In the past, people used the idea of a machine to explain society. Now, he says we should use the idea of a network instead. This happens through a process he calls informationalism. This is when technology allows businesses and groups to form global networks. These networks help people and organizations connect even if they are far apart.
