Long ago, people in China had a big idea. They believed the sky chose their leaders. This was called the Mandate of Heaven.

A good king was called the Son of Heaven. He had to be kind and fair. If a king was bad, the sky would pick a new leader.

Natural disasters like floods were seen as bad signs. People thought these signs meant the king lost his power. This could lead to many people fighting to change the leader.

Some leaders were not born into rich families. They became kings because they ruled well. The people believed they had the Mandate.

This idea helped people talk about how to rule. It was a way to make sure leaders were good.
