Mencius (book)

philosophy religion Maturity 9-11 Next article →

This old book tells stories about a man named Mencius. He traveled to many lands to talk to rulers.

He taught that all people are born good. He called this goodness "sprouts." Just like a plant, these sprouts grow when we are kind.

He said we should help others. For example, we feel bad if a child falls into a well.

Mencius said leaders should be kind too. A good leader cares if people are suffering. This helps a land stay peaceful and fair. It is a very famous book to read.
