The Mallos de Riglos are amazing rock formations in Spain.

They are located in the municipality of Las Peñas de Riglos. This area is in the Hoya de Huesca comarca of Aragon. These rocks are part of the foothills of the Pyrenees. They are a very special sight to see. People travel from many places to visit them.

These rocks are made of a type called conglomerate.

First, material washed down from the Pyrenees slopes. This material then mixed with limestone. The limestone acted like a glue to hold it. Over time, this mixture became a compacted mass. This process created the large conglomerate rock we see.

Nature then changed the shape of the rocks. This happened through a thing called erosion. Erosion is when wind or water wears things down. The softer parts of the conglomerate washed away. The more resistant rock did not wash away. This left the tall shapes we know today.

The Mallos de Riglos have some very big numbers. They rise about 300 metres high. This is nearly 980 feet in height. They sit at 1,000 metres or more above sea level. They are about 45 km northwest of Huesca. This distance is about 28 miles from the city. These facts show how huge they truly are.

Many people visit these rocks for fun. The Mallos de Riglos have very vertical sides. This makes them a popular spot for climbers.

You can think of them like giant stone walls. Climbing them is a big challenge for many. It is a famous place for rock climbing. The steep walls make it a great destination.
