The first one came out in 1984. People called it the classic Mac OS. It was easy for people to use. But it had some problems. It could not manage memory very well.

Apple wanted a better way to work. They bought a company called NeXT. This helped them build a new system. It was first called Mac OS X.

This new system was built on a tool called Unix. It fixed many old technical problems. It allowed the computer to do many things at once.

Today, we call this system macOS. It gets one big update every year. It uses a special look for the screen. This is called a GUI. It uses icons to show files. For example, a folder holds files. A trash can holds things you delete. This system also helps run other Apple devices. It is the base for the software on iPhones and Apple Watches. It even helps run the Apple Vision Pro headset.
