sports Maturity 7-9 Next article →

Ma Long is a professional table tennis player from China. He is widely considered the greatest player to ever play the game. Many people call him "The Dragon" because his name, Lóng, represents his zodiac year. He has also earned the nickname "The Dictator" because of his dominance. Ma Long has achieved things no other man has done in this sport. He is the only male player to complete a career double Grand Slam. This means he won the biggest titles in table tennis twice.

Playing at the highest level requires amazing skill and focus. Ma Long must hit a small ball across a table and over a net. He has to stay calm even when the pressure is very high. Early in his career, coaches said he needed more mental toughness. He sometimes lost big matches because it was hard to play perfectly under pressure. However, he worked hard to become much more consistent. By 2015, he was winning almost every major tournament he entered.

Ma Long's journey to the top started when he was very young. He won the World Junior Championships before becoming a world champion at age 17. This happened during the 2006 Bremen World Team Championship. He learned his skills from teachers like Wang Hao and Ma Kai Xuan. Later, he studied under a coach named Qin Zhijian. He had a very successful early career by winning many tournaments. Even when he faced setbacks, he kept training to reach his goals.

His records in international competitions are truly incredible. Ma Long has won six gold medals at the Summer Olympics. No other player has won more than four. He also held the world number 1 ranking for 64 months. This is the most time any man has spent at the top. He won the World Championship in men's singles in 2015, 2017, and 2019. These are three wins in a row.

Ma Long's success connects him to the history of great athletes. He is one of only two people to win every important singles competition. The other person is Deng Yaping. In 2016, he won the Olympic gold medal in Rio. He beat Zhang Jike in a very big final match. This win helped him become an immortal figure in table tennis history. His hard work shows how much a person can achieve with practice.
