The Lombok Strait is a stretch of water in Indonesia.

It sits between the islands of Bali and Lombok. The Gili Islands are also found on the Lombok side. This strait connects the Bali Sea to the Indian Ocean.

The water here is very deep. It is much deeper than the Strait of Malacca. Because of this, very large ships use it to travel. It is also a main path for ocean currents. These currents move water between the Pacific and Indian Oceans.

This place is a special line for nature. It is called the Wallace Line. This line marks a boundary for animals. On one side, you find animals from Asia. On the other side, you find animals from Australasia. Long ago, deep water kept these animals apart.

The sea is full of life. Many people visit to dive and see fish. You can find corals, sponges, and many types of snails. Dolphins also live in these waters. Some types of tiny bacteria even live here to help clean up oil.
