Livy's life was shaped by many big changes. He was born around 59 BC. During his youth, there were many civil wars. These were fights between different Roman leaders. Because of these wars, he might not have studied in Greece. Many young men of his class went there to learn. Livy did not serve in the Roman army. He was not a senator or a government leader.
