geography Maturity 7-9 Next article →

Lingdingyang is a wide part of the sea. It is a middle channel in the Pearl River estuary. This water sits in the land of Guangdong. The channel runs from Humen to Jiuzhouyang. Humen is a place that separates two parts of the river mouth. One part is called Shiziyang. The other part is Jiuzhouyang. Jiuzhouyang sits near the tip of Taipa. It also sits near the tip of Lantau. The water goes down to the Wanshan Archipelago. Today, a big bridge crosses this water. It is the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge. This bridge and a tunnel go across the channel. A bridge called the Shenzhen–Zhongshan Bridge also crosses here. A long time ago, a man named Wen Tianxiang was here. He was the last Prime Minister of the Southern Song ruling family. The Yuan army captured him in Guangdong. He was on a warship in the channel. He felt lonely on the ocean. He wrote a poem about his trip through Lingdingyang.
