Linda Nochlin was a famous art historian. She was an expert on modern art. She was born in Brooklyn, New York. She grew up in a wealthy family. Linda studied many things. She studied philosophy and English. Later, she earned a Ph.D. in art history.

Linda is best known for her big ideas. In 1971, she wrote a famous paper. She asked why there were no "great" women artists. She found that women faced many barriers. For example, they were often kept out of art schools. This made it hard for them to succeed.

She helped people see the skill of women. Linda helped pick art for big shows. One show was called "Global Feminisms." It had art from eighty-eight women around the world. Another show featured women artists from 1550 to 1950.
