He came from a wealthy family. Lescot had close ties to the United States. This helped him become president.

During World War II, Lescot started a big plan. He wanted to grow rubber in Haiti. A group called SHADA managed this work. The United States gave five million dollars to help.

The plan used a special vine to make rubber. But the plan had many problems. It cleared over 100,000 hectares of land. Many families were forced to leave their homes. Nearly one million fruit trees were cut down. The rubber plants did not grow well. Droughts also made the harvests poor.

Many people in Haiti were unhappy. They felt the government was unfair. They did not like how Lescot ruled. In 1946, students led big protests. Workers went on strike, too. The military would not help Lescot stop the crowds. Lescot and his leaders had to flee the country. After he left, new leaders took power. Haiti eventually chose its first black president in a long time.
