The weather in Liberia follows a simple pattern. There are two main seasons: a dry season and a wet season. The dry season lasts from November to April. Liberia is actually one of the drier cities in Guanacaste. Even when it is raining, this area stays drier than most of Costa Rica. The heat can feel very strong if you are not used to it.

Liberia has a long and interesting history. It began as a small place to rest on September 4, 1769. It was a spot where roads from Rivas, Bagaces, and Nicoya all met. Giant guanacaste trees provided shade for travelers and their animals. Over time, the area became known as Guanacaste. The city has changed names many times since then. In 1831, it was called Villa de Guanacaste. In 1836, it became Ciudad de Guanacaste. Finally, in 1854, the name was changed to the City of Liberia.

There are many things to see and do in and around the city. You can visit the Museo de Guanacaste to see local art. There is also a museum called Museo de Sabanero. If you like animals, you might visit the Africa Mia zoo. The Rincón de la Vieja Volcano National Park is just to the northeast. There, you can find hot springs, bubbling clay pots, and many waterfalls. For sports fans, the city has a major football team called Municipal Liberia. They play their home games at the Estadio Edgardo Baltodano Briceño.

Traveling to Liberia is quite easy for many people. The Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport is located 13 kilometers west of the city. It is the second largest international airport in Costa Rica. It connects the country to places like London, Amsterdam, Canada, and the United States. The city is also easy to reach by road. It is covered by several important paths like National Route 1 and Route 21.

These roads help tourists and locals move through the beautiful landscape.
