Lhotse is the fourth-highest mountain on Earth.

It sits on the border of China and Nepal. The name Lhotse comes from Tibetan. It means "South Peak."

This mountain is part of a big group of peaks. Mount Everest is to the north. Nuptse is to the west. Lhotse has four distinct summits. The main summit is the highest. The others are Lhotse Middle, Lhotse Central II, and Lhotse Shar.

Climbing Lhotse can be very hard. Some parts are extremely steep and dangerous. The Lhotse Face is a wall of blue ice. Climbers use ropes to pull themselves up this ice. They also pass rocky parts called the Yellow Band and the Geneva Spur.

Some people do amazing things here. In 1999, Soňa Vomáčková reached the top without extra oxygen. Some climbers even go from Lhotse to Everest in less than 24 hours. This is called the "Double Crown."
