A leprechaun is a tiny being from Irish folklore. Some people call them solitary fairies. This means they live alone. They are often seen as little men with beards.

Many old stories say they make shoes. They might hide a pot of gold. Some say the gold is at the end of a rainbow. In very old tales, they were not always like this. One story tells of a king. Three tiny beings once pulled him into the sea! He caught them and got three wishes.

Their clothes used to look different. Before the 1900s, they often wore red coats. The style changed depending on where they lived in Ireland. In one place, they wore white pants. In another, they wore a special hat.

Today, many people think of them in green. This is because green is a famous color for Ireland. You might see them in cartoons or ads. Some people even use the name to talk about money and math. It is fun to see how these old ideas change over time.
