Most people love lemons for their juice. The juice is sour. This is because it has citric acid. This acid is much stronger than the acid in orange juice. People use the juice to make lemonade. They also use it in many foods. The juice can make meat soft. It can also stop sliced fruit from turning brown.

The fruit has a thick skin called a rind. The outer part is called zest. It has oils that smell very strong. The inner part is a white, spongy layer called pith. Inside the fruit, there are many small segments. These segments hold the juice.

In 2024, the world made 23 million tonnes of lemons. India and Mexico made the most. Many people grow lemons in California and Florida. Some lemons, like the Eureka, grow fruit all year long.
