The League of Nations was a group of many countries.

Its main goal was to keep world peace. It started on January 10, 1920. This was after the First World War ended.

Leaders wanted to stop wars from starting. They used talk and rules to settle fights. The League also looked at many other things. It helped with global health and worker rights. It even worked to stop child labor.

But the League had some big problems. It did not have its own army. It had to ask other nations for help. Many powerful nations did not join. The United States never joined the group. This made the League less strong. Some countries even left the League in the 1930s.

Because of these issues, the League could not stop the Second World War. It stopped working in 1946. A new group called the United Nations was made to take its place.

Even so, the League helped teach the world how to work together.
