Law of Mexico

society Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Mexico uses a system called civil law. The most important rule is the Constitution. It is the base for all other laws.

Congress makes laws to help the country work. These are called legislation. The President also makes regulations. These rules help explain the laws. All these rules are put in a special book. It is called the Official Journal of the Federation.

Mexico has 31 states and one big city. Each state has its own constitution. They also have their own local laws.

Law is split into two main parts. Public law is about the government and people. It includes rules for crime and taxes. Private law is about how people deal with each other. This includes rules for trade and work. Scholars also write books called doctrine. These books help people understand the law. They are not laws themselves, but they help. Even old customs can be rules if the law allows it.
