The Latin Union was a group of many nations.

These nations shared similar ways of speaking. They used Romance languages. These are languages that come from Latin. The group was started in Madrid, Spain. It began to work in 1983. At first, it had 12 members. Later, it grew to 36 states. These states were in many places. They were in Europe, Africa, and the Americas. They were also in the Asia-Pacific region.

To join, a nation had to meet certain rules. They had to use a Latin language in school. They also used it on the radio and TV. The group had three main parts. One part was called the Congress. It met every two years. It picked leaders for the group. Another part was the Executive Council. It led the group's work. The third part was the General Secretariat. This part carried out the plans. The group used many official languages. These were Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian, and Catalan. Sadly, the group ran out of money. It stopped its work in 2012.
