Earth has many shapes on its surface. These shapes are called landforms.

Some landforms are natural. Others are made by people.

There are four major types of landforms. These are hills, mountains, plains, and plateaus.

You can also find smaller ones. These include valleys and canyons. Some landforms are even under the sea.

Many things can make landforms. Moving plates under the Earth's crust can push up mountains. Wind and water can also change the land. Even living things help. For example, coral helps make coral reefs.

Scientists study these shapes. They call this study geomorphology. They look at how tall a landform is. They also look at its slope. People use satellites to map the land. This helps them see the shapes from space. You can find landforms on other planets, too. They have mountains and valleys just like Earth.
