Not many people know exactly how Lalon's life began. He was born around the year 1772. Some say he was born in Bharara village. Others believe he was born in Jhenaidah. Lalon did not go to a formal school. One story says he got sick with smallpox. While he was sick, his friends left him behind. A kind couple named Malam Shah and Matijan found him. They took him into their home to get well. Later, he found a mentor named Siraj Sain. Lalon lived until he was 118 years old. He died on 17 October 1890.

Lalon wrote a huge number of songs and poems. Some people think he wrote between 2,000 and 10,000 songs. Most experts believe about 800 of these are his real works. Lalon did not write his songs down on paper. Instead, people learned them by listening to others. This is called an oral tradition. Many of his followers could not read or write. Because of this, the songs were kept alive through singing. Famous singers like Farida Parveen still sing his songs today. They work to make the words very clear for everyone.

Lalon's legacy is still very strong today. He founded a place called Lalon Akhra in Cheuriya.
