Sometimes the water level goes down. This happens during a drought. A drought is a long time with very little rain. When the water is low, some boat ramps must close. You can even see old ruins under the water. These are the remains of towns like St. Thomas.

Snow in the mountains helps fill the lake. When the snow melts, the water flows down the river. This makes the water level rise. New tools at the dam help it work even when water is low.
