The lake holds a lot of water. This helps Egypt grow more food. It also makes power for homes.

Building the dam changed many things. Many Nubian people had to move from their homes. The water also flooded old sites. People worked hard to save some of them. They moved the famous Abu Simbel temples to keep them safe.

The lake is great for business. Many people fish in the water. They catch fish like tilapia and Nile perch. Many tourists visit the lake too. They go on cruises to see the views. They also visit the old temples. Today, a new dam in Ethiopia might change the water flow. This could make it hard for Egypt and Sudan to get enough water.
