She is widely considered one of the greatest female professional boxers of all time. Ali competed in the ring from 1999 until 2007. During this period, she remained undefeated. This means she never lost a single professional match. She held several major championship belts during her career. These included titles from the WBC, WIBA, IWBF, and IBA. She also captured the IWBF light heavyweight title. Her success helped bring more attention to women's professional boxing.

Ali's path to professional sports was not a direct one. She was born on December 30, 1977, in Miami Beach, Florida. Her father was the famous boxer Muhammad Ali. Her mother was Veronica Porché. Before she became a fighter, Ali worked as a manicurist. She even owned her own nail salon. She eventually earned a business degree from Santa Monica College in California. She decided to start boxing at age 18. This decision was inspired by watching a fight by Christy Martin. Her father initially opposed her choice. He believed women should not participate in boxing. He also worried about the physical dangers of the sport.

Ali's professional career began with a high-profile debut. On October 8, 1999, she fought April Fowler in Verona, New York. Many journalists and fans attended this first match. They were interested because of her famous father. Ali won the match by a knockout in the first round. Her second match was also a quick victory. She defeated Shadina Pennybaker by a technical knockout, or TKO. A TKO occurs when a referee stops the fight to protect a boxer. This second win happened with only three seconds left on the clock. These early victories set the stage for her long winning streak.

One of the most significant moments in her career was the Ali/Frazier IV match. This fight took place on June 8, 2001, against Jacqui Frazier-Lyde. The name honored the famous boxing trilogy between their fathers. This event was the first main-event pay-per-view match between two women. Ali won the fight by a majority judges' decision. The fight lasted eight rounds. The judges' scores were 79–73, 77–75, and 76–76. While Ali won, the match was physically difficult. She suffered a fractured left collarbone and a bloodied nose. Frazier-Lyde finished the fight with a swollen eye.

Ali continued to win major titles through various combat stages. In 2002, she won the IBA title by knocking out Suzette Taylor. Later that year, she unified her championship status. She added the WIBA and IWBF belts by defeating Valerie Mahfood. This was an eight-round TKO victory. In 2003, Ali fought her original inspiration, Christy Martin. Ali won that match by a knockout in four rounds. She also became the second woman ever to win a WBC title. This happened in 2005 after she defeated Erin Toughill. Her dominance continued in 2007. She defeated Gwendolyn O'Neil in her final professional fight via a first-round TKO.
