By the 1980s, hollow aluminum shafts were made to be lighter than wood. This allowed for much faster shots and passes.

Modern technology has made the game even faster. In the 1990s, a new design called "offset" became very popular. Brine filed a patent for the "scooped" head in 1995, and their "Edge" model was the first to use it. Offset means the sidewalls curve to form a scoop shape.
