Wiredu had a big idea called conceptual decolonisation. He spoke about this in a lecture in 1980. This idea means looking at thoughts through African languages. He believed that the language we use shapes how we see the world. For example, a person raised in China might think differently because of their language. He wanted to use African languages to check old ideas from the West. This helps make sure African philosophy is truly itself.

He also studied what it means to be a person. He looked at the traditions of the Akan culture. In this view, being a person has two parts. The first part is just your physical body. The second part is about how you act and choose. Wiredu believed you are not just born a person. Instead, you become a person by making good and ethical choices. This is a very special way to look at life.

Wiredu was a great teacher at many schools.

His work connects many different worlds together. He used ideas from thinkers like Immanuel Kant and John Dewey. At the same time, he used ideas from his own Akan culture. He wrote many books to share these thoughts. One book, called Philosophy and an African Culture, won him a big award in 1982. He died in January 2022 at the age of 90. His life shows how deep thinking can help us understand everyone.
