Many tourists visit the falls on side trips. They love to see the beautiful scenery. It is a famous spot in the Luang Prabang province.

The water follows a very clear path. It starts in shallow pools on a steep hill. The river is called the Nam Si or Si River. The water travels 10 kilometers from its source. It flows down to the main waterfall. The water drops 60 meters down.

It falls in three cascades. These are steps of falling water. The water flows over white limestone rocks. This makes the water look very bright.

The water creates lovely colors as it falls. It fills pools with an aquamarine turquoise color.

These pools sit among tropical trees. The green trees look great against the blue water. The name of the falls tells us a story. In the local language, Nam Tok Tad means waterfall. Nam means water and Kuang means deer. Si is the name of the river.

Many people lived near the river in the past. The Hmong and Lao Theung hill tribes lived there. They lived in villages like Ban Nong Thouk. Other villages were Ban Hin Oih and Ban Nam Ork. At the bottom of the falls is Ban Tad village. Farmers used a method called slash-and-burn to grow rice. This caused the Nam Si River to have a drought. This means the river became very dry.

The area has changed quite a lot over time. After 1975, the Lao government moved the hill tribes. They did this to help restore natural resources. Now, the area is a place for travelers to enjoy. You can still see a few straw houses there. These houses are kept for foreign tourists to see. The falls remain a beautiful part of the landscape.

It is a wonderful place to explore.
