Tanougou Falls

geography Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Tanougou Falls is a beautiful waterfall in Africa.

It sits in the Atakora mountains. These mountains are in the north of the country called Benin. The falls are very close to the Pendjari Game Park. You can find them about 20 km northeast of a place named Tanguiéta. It is a special part of the natural world.

The way the water moves depends on the weather.

The water drops down a height of about 15 meters. Most of the time, the flow is about 1.5 cubic meters every second. This is a way to measure how much water moves past a point. However, the amount of water changes with the seasons. The flow is not the same all year long.

Rain plays a huge part in how the falls look.

There is a rainy season in this part of Benin. This season lasts from May to September. During these months, the flow of the water is at its strongest. The water moves much faster when it rains a lot. This makes the falls very powerful during the middle of the year.

Many people enjoy visiting this natural site.

At the bottom of the falls, there is a natural pool. Nature made this pool where the water lands. It is a very popular spot for people to go swimming. Visitors like to cool off in the water there. The pool is a key part of the area.

Tanougou Falls is a great example of how water shapes the land.

It sits right on the edge of a large game park. This means the falls are part of a big, wild area. The mountains and the water work together to create a unique place. You can see how the seasons change the landscape. It is a place where nature is always moving.
